~WINTER'S WRATH~

Winter's weather remains relentless here in the Northeast... whirling snow... whiteout conditions...slick roads... driving is treacherous...schools remain empty and businesses close early...
The Northwest wind blows and the  temperature plummets...
Snow is to continue throughout the night...
the temperature will dip to negative numbers...
The wood stove works overtime keeping the old homestead warm and toasty...
Winslow Homer has to be  bribed to go out to do his business and the chickens huddle together in their coop under a beam of red... they have earned an early morning treat...a breakfast of warm oatmeal and raisins will be served...my treat... a pot of hot chocolate and a new pair of long underwear...T'is winter in Maine...and honestly, there is no other place I would rather be...

  3. There is such beauty in the snow and cold weather and yet such harshness.
We had a sunny day but have had days that dipped to the negatives too.
    Stay safe and warm!

  5. Julie,
I don't know how you cope!!! It sounds 10 times worse than in Ohio and I hate Ohio weather. Glad you can enjoy it.
Ellie hates this weather, too. Sometimes she doesn't even make it out of the garage to take care of her business.
    Stay warm.
    Hugs :)

  6. All I can say is Wow! Here in the NC mountains we have had no snow until today. Still we will have no where near the amount you have.
Maybe some day I will see Maine in snow.
    Stay warm!

  7. Julie,
We have really had those below zero temps here too for the past week or two! Makes for a long winter but I think you have the right attitude! The girls will love their oatmeal and raisins!! They will need it! Stay warm and safe while you're shoveling those paths for Mr. Winslow!! Thinking of you up there down here in WI!!
    Hugs!!

  13. Happy New Year! We've been reading in the news about the bad snowstorm you are having. Ok so long as you can stay home and look at it from the inside:) Poor Winslow Homer - he has my sympathy!

  14. Bitterly cold with lots of snow here in Ohio. Not nearly as bad as what you have. But "bad is in the eye of the beholder" I suppose. It is lovely to look at and I've taken extra care with the barn/visitor cats, and whoever else shows up to snack.

  16. DEEP snow and frigid temperatures are the way of it here as well. Perfect weather for mugs of hot cocoa, favourite books, and general coziness.
Wishing you the magic of wintertime!
    Sending warm hugs your way...

  18. I love your attitude but I find that I mind the cold more as I get older as I have to put on so many layers to stay warm now. How about two pairs of long johns instead of only one, sweaters and vests and wool blankets on the bed. I don't even think of cutting them for hooking anymore, lol...when it's so cold. My body thermostat is in need of antifreeze like my car, lol..
The days are getting longer, have you noticed? Probably not, but slowly they are getting longer. I have a love hate relationship with winter, especially the cold wind and blowing snow...
    Sounds familiar?
    Hugs,
    JB
