A FIRST

By now most of you know I spend a lot of time visiting with my "girls". What I have learned from them is each and every one has a distinct personality and each breed presents different traits. My Buffs are more reserved, not as boisterous, are lady like and enjoy their "dirt" baths. The Ameraucanas have a "look at me" attitude, strut around with puffed chests (you would think they were males) and are aloof and loud. Now the Barreds. Right from the start they were the more friendlier breed and most open to human contact. They enjoy being held, carried, and will sit on your lap. The other morning while brushing my teeth, I looked out the bathroom window and who do I see? Miss Willa perched on the porch window box. You cannot come in, I'm sorry. Then I stood still and just watched.
She was trying to get comfy in the window box.
She had a determined look on her face
and then would need to take "five."Egg laying is hard work.
Willa I think you had better rethink this.
I'm serious
Not going to work, I told you. Hens have a mind of their own, don't you know.
Oops.Next day, second attempt
Yup I added chips, she works so hard to give us her "gifts"
Go ahead give it the old college try. Do you see what I see, Bingo!
With a very loud announcement one egg was delivered perfectly centered in the window box. Chickens are amazing, well mine are anyway.

Oh my gosh isn't Miss Willa an absolute angel! And aren't you a great mom for putting shavings in the window box for her. She goes well with the outside of the house too!

Aw, way to go, Willa! I love how you put shavings in your window box, Julie...such a good chicken mama you are! I *love* my Barred Rocks - they are indeed gentle, friendly and excellent egg layers. Pretty girls, too. I'm so happy you're loving your hens so. :-) There's nothing like 'em, is there?

Oh Julie that is the funniest series of pictures you have captured with Willa. She knows you love it when she gifts you with an egg so she just got right up there so you could see! I know you love your girls, woodchips in the window box :)

As I type Miss Willa is at it again, back in the window box.

What a precious gift she left you. How thoughtful of you to give her some new shavings for comfort laying. Too bad the first try was a flop.
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Hugs~ Birgit

You are a doll to add chips for her new nest. Mine still have to do thier thing in the hen house. Besides it's just too cold now. We have snow and everything else, wind brrr.

I like how you pointed out thier personalities. My RHRs are very assertive and bossy to each other.

Oh, I love Willa! She is such a sweet girl. She doesn't want you to walk too far to gather her eggs. She looks just like my Olive and Gertie, who are also very calm. They coo when I hold them and scratch their necks. The reds are feisty and complain loudly not to mention that they have now started chasing poor Taffy.
