On this beautiful spring morning, birds are singing and flowers blooming, two of my girl's have been killed. Dear sweet Gladys and Georgia I have lost to a fox. I now realize what the phrase "sly as a fox" truly means, I have learned the hard way. I have recovered Georgia and buried her in the flower garden, but have yet to find Gladys. Winslow and I have walked the fields and woods and have found evidence of her demise.

Oh dear, what sad news. They're not just chickens at all, they are a part of your family. It hasn't been a good weekend for chickens all around has it? So sorry to hear about Gladys and Georgia.

I am so sorry. This is my biggest fear. I worry so much about my chickens, my husband thinks I'm nuts! But they have become like part of the family now. It's tough not to be attached.

I am so very, very sorry.
I am so sorry. I love reading about your chickens. We have a small dog we love dearly, and even living in a suburb of Chicago, I have seen coyotes close to home. I can so understand your heartbreak. I will be thinking of you.
Julie
I am so so sorry ... as a child, my pets were ducks. So, I sort of know what you are going through. Most people don't understand why I like ducks so much.
I am so, so sorry, unless you have had chickens, it is hard for people to understand how the girls are more than chickens, it breaks my heart, foxes are not like in chicken little,
Can you call in a trapper to bring a trap and catch it? Once it has started I don't think it will stop. If she has babies, she really won't stop.
I will pray for you today.
Love,
Kim

I am so sorry to hear about this. I know you love your chickens, I would feel the same way. I just love all types of livestock. I'm new to your blog, but have enjoyed getting to know you and your animals. You're in my thoughts and prayers today. I'm so sorry for your loss of your precious girls. Take care.
So very sorry to hear of your loss. I have loved all of the stories about their antics. They were truly special and beloved pets.
I'm sorry you've lost your friends. My thoughts are with you.

Oh Julie! I'm so sorry to hear about Georgia and Gladys. Your girls are definitely NOT just chickens. We make a bond with our animals. I know it's probably difficut now, but try and have in your mind that you gave them the best home and life. I am thinking of your over here.
Oh no! Auntie I'm so sorry :(
Truly it is a sad day...
I am thinking of you.
Thank you all for your kind words and comments, it makes my sorrow a little easier to bear.
I am so very sorry. Our feathered friends are family members also. My heart breaks for you :( Mother Nature just seems so cruel at times. Hugs, Tammy
It's awful when we lose gentle members of the farm family in such an unexpected way. Last winter we lost our entire flock to an otter - too, too awful. Big sympathy from here.
R.I.P dear Gladys and Georgia, Julie will miss you both dearly.
I'm very sorry! I know how hard it is. Wish I could do more.
Hugs,
Sandy
I feel so sad this morning for you and Bill, I know how much you love all of your girls. love ya lots.
Such sad news. They were not just chickens to you, but part of your family you cared for and tended.
Hugs, Kim
Aw! I am very sorry for your loss, we have been having trouble with a hawk so I know your loss.
My heart aches for you and your loss. I am so,so sorry. Our animals are our buddies, companions and part of our family. They give us unconditional love and friendship and ask for little in return. Today is indeed a very sad day.

I understand. The only real method is the gun you just wanted to scare the fox with. Otherwise your animals have to stay in a very safe pen unless you are RIGHT with them. And even at that you might lose one. That is how I lost Honey Hen.

To many chickens are "just chickens" ~ they don't realize how entertaining they are or how each one has it's own personality. Most of my girls jump into my lap when I'm sitting on the front porch rocker and many times when the door opens, Hester walks in for a visit (hubby loves that ~ NOT! lol).
I loved Georgia and the stories about her. I'm so sorry. I know you must be heartbroken.
