HEARTACHE

On this beautiful spring morning, birds are singing and flowers blooming, two of my girl's have been killed. Dear sweet Gladys and Georgia I have lost to a fox. I now realize what the phrase "sly as a fox" truly means, I have learned the hard way. I have recovered Georgia and buried her in the flower garden, but have yet to find Gladys. Winslow and I have walked the fields and woods and have found evidence of her demise.
I know they are just chickens to some, but to me my buddies and how I loved dear Gladys. I keep hoping she might appear, but I am afraid there is little hope. Today is a sad day.

Oh dear, what sad news. They're not just chickens at all, they are a part of your family. It hasn't been a good weekend for chickens all around has it? So sorry to hear about Gladys and Georgia.

I am so sorry. This is my biggest fear. I worry so much about my chickens, my husband thinks I'm nuts! But they have become like part of the family now. It's tough not to be attached.

I am so sorry. I love reading about your chickens. We have a small dog we love dearly, and even living in a suburb of Chicago, I have seen coyotes close to home. I can so understand your heartbreak. I will be thinking of you.

I am so so sorry ... as a child, my pets were ducks. So, I sort of know what you are going through. Most people don't understand why I like ducks so much.

I am so, so sorry, unless you have had chickens, it is hard for people to understand how the girls are more than chickens, it breaks my heart, foxes are not like in chicken little,
Can you call in a trapper to bring a trap and catch it? Once it has started I don't think it will stop. If she has babies, she really won't stop.
I will pray for you today.
Love,
Kim

I am so very sorry. Our feathered friends are family members also. My heart breaks for you :( Mother Nature just seems so cruel at times. Hugs, Tammy

It's awful when we lose gentle members of the farm family in such an unexpected way. Last winter we lost our entire flock to an otter - too, too awful. Big sympathy from here.

My heart aches for you and your loss. I am so,so sorry. Our animals are our buddies, companions and part of our family. They give us unconditional love and friendship and ask for little in return. Today is indeed a very sad day.

I understand. The only real method is the gun you just wanted to scare the fox with. Otherwise your animals have to stay in a very safe pen unless you are RIGHT with them. And even at that you might lose one. That is how I lost Honey Hen.

To many chickens are "just chickens" ~ they don't realize how entertaining they are or how each one has it's own personality. Most of my girls jump into my lap when I'm sitting on the front porch rocker and many times when the door opens, Hester walks in for a visit (hubby loves that ~ NOT! lol).
