Sometimes the unexpected can be a good thing. Today I said goodbye to my old friend, a friend that has served me well for the past eight years. Oh how I loved my little buggy, my Jetta- she was peppy, faithful, reliable. Winslow Homer loved her too. He enjoyed the fact in winter his seat would heat and keep him warm. Well, lately it had became clear that I was in need of some form of larger vehicle. Pine chips, feed, scratch, groceries and Winslow Homer take up quite a bit of space. So today while DH and I were off on one of our day trips I said "hey, lets just stop at the SUBARU dealership and look." Key word "look" (In my heart I felt like a traitor, a real Benedict Arnold). I have always had a Volkswagen, I am one of those girls who loves the way their engine sounds, and nothing sounds better to me than a Volkswagen engine.
For a year I have been secretly carrying this brochure around with me. The Subaru Outback certainly seemed to fit the bill, it met all my and Winslow Homer's requirements. Needless to say the "quick look" at the dealership turned into an unexpected all day affair. At the end of the day I left my baby with the dealership. I hope she finds a good home and someone to love her as much as I have.
So now I have my new farm vehicle a 2011 Outback, what a lucky farm girl I am (all I need now is a trailer hitch)
and Winslow Homer, he's happy to know that it came with heated seats!
And me- well, I'll learn to appreciate the sound of my new engine.

What a very nice car! How come it feels like being a traitor when you get a new car? I always hate that part, I have told my husband to forget the new car bit I am not going to get one ever again. I can carry chicken feed and all kinds of stuff.
It is beautiful and I love the picture with your feet out the window. The one good thing is the new car smell though.

Woe, Julie! Awesome new car, and I agree with Farm Girl - I love the photo of you with your feet out of the window, as long as you don't do that while driving! LOL I know what you mean about traitor - I am looking for a used pick-up that I can trade out-right for my Toyota Echo. If I'm gonna live in the country, I'll need the room of a pick-up to haul whatever needs haulin'. Congrats on the new car! Take care, from KY.
Good choice! I like a vehicle that fits many purposes - we haul hay and goats and then once a month get dressed up and head to the theatre in our SUV.
Yes, I'm sure you'll learn to love it! My next door neighbor has an Outback and my husband has a Tribeca. Both serve them very well.
Funny but I was just reading a blog post where someone who was visiting New England said there must be some sort of Secret Subaru Society here, because she saw Subaru's everywhere she went! LOL!

Julie it's true about that V-Dub engine, it's a sweet sound but I agree I don't think you will have any trouble lovin that Subie's tune!

I have a 97 F150 and its time for another (used) truck. I have Toyota Tacoma envy. The cab and a half would be perfect for all my different lifestyles. Front seat for me and my immediate needs. Back seat for laptop and work stuff plus a cozy space for the farm dog and then all my farm and cow items could be in the bed of the truck, including kayaks and stray hens. Well, there's nothing like getting comfy straight off in a brand spanking new car! I know what you mean about feeling guilty. I used to own a lovely Morris Traveller, wonderful characterful car that er......ahem....well make rude noises when gear changing! Great fun to drive but not the most practical car so I have a nice but boring Peugeot now...sigh.....
Evie will want in depth reports on every Subaru trip from you now of course! (-:
Isn't it strange how we become attached to our cars, trucks, vans etc. We get to know them inimately, their quirks and idiosyncrasies. They become like our friends, dependable and trustworthy. We share our day to day routines with them and at times make special memories while in their presence. Sometimes we even give them names. How very strange.

Heated seats, oh my. I am jealous. Just wanted to stop over and say thanks for dropping by the other day for the opening. It went very well. Actually I was doing well last week. This weekend should be busy as the article about the shop hits the Gorham Times Newstands on Thursday. I have already been restocking. It was so nice to meet you.
Congrats, and I'm sure you'll get used to the new purr of the engine in no time. Friends of mine have had an Outback for a few years and are very happy with it.
