Today's weather was dismal to say the least. Heavy rain and howling wind caused major power outages to a large portion of the state. Schools closed, roads flooded and trees came down. Fortunately for us our electricity returned in the early morning hours. Winslow and I however, elected to remain nestled in. I lit the wood stove and placed a pot of spices on top which soon had the house smelling of cinnamon and cloves. I then lit candles to add to the atmosphere and began "puttering". I cut wool for a new project, tis the season for projects and tried my hand at making "pantry cakes." Pantry cakes are a staple in primitive decorating and mine is still drying by the wood stove. Tomorrow I will show you my finished product.... also items I purchased at local craft fairs....tis the season for craft fairs, but for now I leave you with this....

Your day sounds familiar. Much like our weekend. We are "supposed" to see some sun on Wednesday.

What a beautiful photo even if it is threatening bad weather and the words are beautiful too. I'm sorry to learn that your weather was so bad you lost power and roads flooded. Thank goodness for wood stoves! We haven't had rain in our part of Kansas like that since the July 4th weekend...we need moisture very badly. We are excitedly awaiting a call from the stove place telling us that our Lopi woodstove has finally arrived...once it's in place the weather can do what ever it likes...we'll be ready for it! I hope tomorrow is a better day for you. Maura :)
It is though a very beautiful picture. The grass is still green and you can see the oranges and the yellows of the trees in the background and it looks so pretty against the cloudy and stormy sky. As always thank you for you comments, you know I feel so honored when I see a comment from Dog Trot. My idea of being famous. You always brighten my day. I look forward to seeing your pantry cakes. So sorry about the bad weather. I heard on the news you all were having bad weather in the north east. Wind always scares me. I love that tree and your comparison to life. Sounds like you had a wonderful day though and made the most of the weather. I can smell that wonderful spice mix from here :)

There's nothing nicer than a wood fire on a blustery day. Losing power is never a good thing, but when one has lots of interesting things to do it can be a treat. Pantry cakes - you have me intrigued.
We had wind and rain but I guess not any where near as bad as you.
No power outage and no flooding.

Heard about your weather on the news Julie! Glad all is well at Dog Trot except for a short interruption in electricity. Did I read somewhere that Winslow is under the weather? I have been all befuddled since the time change. My head feels like it is all full of cotton. Pantry cakes? Must google. Can't wait to see yours! For hookin' Julie....a hoop or some kind of frame?
