JANUARY SNOW

Can you find us? Yes, all is well here at Dog Trot Farm. Winter's white out conditions have forced many to remain at home. Many businesses and schools are closed as the roads have become quite dangerous. I find it to be a perfect day for sitting by the fire.... pulling out a good book, seed catalog or an unfinished project. Guilty....as I have many of those. The girls are all snuggled in their coop and have enjoyed a morning breakfast of warm oatmeal and raisins. Winslow Homer is by the wood stove dreaming of summer days yet to come and Emma Lou remains tucked in her little bed. DH plows our driveway and I snow blow.... there are pros and cons to living so far of the main road and one of which is plowing. We however, would not have it any other way, I can not imagine living in a development. I would have to dress appropriately when visiting my girls first thing in the morning, I mean I have been know to hang laundry in my night gown and DH has been know to run out in his long johns when starting his car in the early morning hours. God forbid If one of us ever locked ourselves out of the house ....well, the snow is accumulating quite swiftly....with the heaviest snow forecast for this afternoon.
Winslow my little man....I think it's time to head in and enjoy a mug of hot cocoa.

Above are the newly painted shutters which are now in our downstairs bathroom. Yesterday while visiting Goodwill I spied this valance for $1.99. This was the perfect accessory to give a little "umph" to the bathroom. Well, those of you who are experiencing this storm please stay safe and to all have a great day.

I loved the way you wrote about your snow and living in the country.

We got 2 ins of icy snow last night. Today it's melting with the slight rain.

Your bathroom looks cute.

Like you, I wouldn't live anywhere else, even though the length of our driveway means that the snow that occasionally falls makes life difficult. As I write, our neighbour has arrived with a plough and I'll be able to get down to the road within the hour. Too bad, because it's been a lovely quiet snowed-in morning.

Oh, those pictures look nasty. This storm is on its way to us, supposed to start in a couple of hours.
Winslow Homer looks adorable as a little snow-dog but I hope he has warmed up now.

I was wondering how you were fairing in this big snowstorm. I was hoping it wasn't going to be like that blizzard that you lost your power for was it 19 days? Winslow Homer looks so wonderful in the snow with it all over his fur. I love how your shutters turned out. They look wonderful with your valance too.
I will keep looking at goodwill now, you inspire me. I really wish I had the nerve to ask my sister-in-law if I could go through her old garage. It has stuff in there from my great grandparents, grandparents and my parents. I always chicken out. :)

Now that is snow! It looks absolutely wonderful though I don't expect it feels quite so wonderful after a few days of it! Love the the photo of Winslow Homer the Snow Dog - hope he is still doing well and having fun in the snow.

JULIE-Oh My! I can’t even imagine snow like this. I would enjoy it so much. We had big snows when I was little but I can’t remember getting a full foot in one storm. I can’t believe your photos. Amazing. They remind me of Little House on the Prairie. Poor little WH out in the bitter cold. Love the shutter and valance.

WOW! You guys really got the snow. We only ended up with 4-5 inches here in Michigan - but that was plenty! Hope you are able to stay in and safe. Keep warm, Dawn

Can you believe Heath had to plow our driveway the other day Julie!!!! I think the only thing I've found different about living in the south is that it's a LONGER walk in the snow to the MAILBOX!!! hahahaha remember when you walked to my mailbox on that wicked wintery day!!!

That picture of Winslow Homer is adorable! We're buried here too, and had 3 plow guys back out on us, our driveway is too steep and tight. No one wants to take it on. Sure is pretty, though! ~Vonnie, NH

It sounds like a wonderful winters day in Downeast Maine. You caught some good shots of the storm too.

Me? For the most part I stayed inside nursing a miserable cold. Actually we did take my daughter for a doctors appointment and I was surprised to the car garage at the hospital completely full!

I hope things are back to normal on Dog Trot Farm this fine Thursday afternoon.

Julie that's some snow! We got that snow before you, not nearly that much, but it gained steam over our midwest and headed to you. Sorry :) Great pictures but I like Dog Trot just the way it looks in your header! Now that's my kinda weather! CH has been a sickie and I have the doldrums as one other Missouri blogger, Deanna from My Loves, My Life blogged about. Take Care Julie! Stay warm!!!
