~HOUSEWORK~

Doing housework.... I enjoy doing housework, ironing, washing, cooking, dish washing. Whenever I get one of those questionnaires and they ask what is your profession, I always put down housewife. It's an admirable profession, why apologize for it. You aren't stupid because you're a housewife. While you're stirring the jam you can read Shakespeare. ~Tasha Tudor~

Oh.... the weather is fine today.... in the high fifties.... it is not to last....just a tease....but I am taking full advantage of the day. Like Tasha Tudor, I too enjoy housework....but when the weather is as nice as it is today I find the need to be outdoors .... feel the sun on my face....and entertain thoughts of Spring....still feeling the need to clean something I decided today was a perfect opportunity to clean the girl's coop.... empty their nesting boxes.... add dust and fresh chips....rake....and add clean shavings to the floor....I vacuumed the eaves and walls. I like to keep a neat and tidy chicken coop. I know my girls appreciate this act of kindness....I like to add small decorative touches to their house too....even chickens like being "chic." On one of my current thrifing expeditions I found a curtain valance with a scattering of poultry printed on it....I decided it was just the perfect item for the girl's coop. I can hear some of you laughing at me now...." curtains in a chicken coop"....let me forewarn you this is what happens when you let fuzzy little peeps enter your life and heart....so with the sun still shining I am off to hang curtains....I would love to hear how some of you decorate your coop.... be brave and share...and yes, I am proud to be a housewife!

I need some of that loving housework to rub off on me!
LOL! I guess it's all how you look at it! Tasha was a wise and contented being so I'm gonna try harder!
I can imagine your girls have one of the cutest and well kept coops out there! With curtains! Love that! I can just hear their contented little peeps!
Love your post!
Hugs!

How cute that you hang curtains. Show us a picture. At Duck Hilton, we don't hang curtains, it's also husbands shop, Yikes he would kill me! But, they have heat and running water (cuz of the shop).

Although I love the job I have now, the best part of my life was staying home and raising my children. I was proud to be a stay a home mom and housewife.

Well, you know I am one of those crazy chicken chicks as well ;) Yes... curtains, signage, artwork, a rooster clock and more. I can't say I'm as good of a coop housekeeper as you though. Impressive, you are!! Yikes, we need a cleaning day here again already :) Love my fuzzy peeps too, and I'll have some chicken fashion gear to show off in a few days.
Hugs and clucks...

You're not alone. I have a customer that buys things for her coop all the time. She got an old ironing board with a chicken painted on it, a chicken weathervane, and a potting bench to put just outside of it. It's adorable! Have a great weekend, Dawn

I have to admit, you are the first person I have heard that vacuums their chicken coop.

We are guilty of decorations, though.

I say, whatever makes you and the ladies happy is perfect.

I knew I had left my heart in the chicken coop when my kids started complaining about be being out there all of the time and after never burning dinner for years and years, I got chicks and dinner would be burned up more often than not. I am glad it is warm and you like to spend time in the chicken coop and that you like to clean house. I think that is such a fun way to spend a day, only I just call it playing house. Always my favorite game when I started Kindergarten.
This is a lovely post.

You do know, don't you, that you'll have to post a photo of the redecorated coop?

I could have written that comment by Tasha Tudor myself - except for the part about reading Shakespeare while stirring jam:) I often used to read while cooking things that needed watching - these days I listen to audio books instead. They tend to be rather less erudite thanShakespeare though!

i love tasha tudor!!!! please post a pic of the chicken curtains, i want to see! i am putting up a valance in my tack room. my goal is to make like a little living room or sorts. i procrastinate too much and have the fabric but need to drive it down to the seamstress...i think you are wonderful in decorating the coop. if i had chickens my coop would be a little cottage. could you email me and tell me what type of vaccumm you use? i bought one from herrington but it doesn't get the cobwebs very well. nothing seems strong enough. the shop vacs are so clumsy and loud with no suction either...my cobwebs are very sturdy too!;)
