KEEPER OF THE HOME

I am a housewife...a keeper of the home...a job that I enjoy and am proud of...I have worked outside the home and have also owned a childcare and preschool business. After falling ill a few years ago I was forced to give up my business and concentrate on becoming well...(viral meningitis and encephalitis) The role I now hold is housewife...yes... I am a mother too... but my sons are now grown ...So... while recently filling out a medical questionnaire the question before me was "occupation"... I was hesitant to write the word HOUSEWIFE. Then I recalled reading a quote by the late Tasha Tudor... a women whom I greatly admire. " I enjoy doing housework, ironing, washing, cooking, dish washing. Whenever I get one of those questionnaires and they ask what your profession, I always put down housewife. It's an admirable profession, why apologize for it. You aren't stupid because you're a housewife when you're stirring the jam you can always read Shakespeare." Amen... Thank you dear Tasha for your words of wisdom...

Julie,
I'm glad that you are now enjoying the blessing of good health........as well as the busy occupation of housewife. Your home and gardens and all that you do are testimony to the fact that a housewife wears many different hats ..... and that you do it all so well!

love it and Tasha Tudor. I agree. I work part time but I do it to help my family. I have always considered them to be my occupation.

A very much needed profession, HOUSEWIFE. Where we all be if our Mom's were not. I grew up in a home where I was raised by my Mom & Grandmom (her Mother) talk about tough, LOL! Have a good day.

I always hesitate too. Then I look back at all that I have done, and continue to do and I think, I have the best life, why not be proud of that title just as I would if it said, say Dr. in front. I bet we have as much life experience.
Gosh, you had both viral meningitis and encephalitis? You could of died.
I am glad you are a housewife too. You always make my day.

After working so many years outside of my home I love being a housewife. Being a homebody is something I value. What we do as work is sometimes not who we are. I don't go by what the world thinks is important I go by whether I am progressing as a person and as a friend.Illness ALWAYS makes us reevaluate what is important, Cheri

I stayed home for 10 years and then went back to work at my kids school working mothers hours 10:30 to 2:30. I loved every single minute of being home. My schedule is now 8:45 to 3:15 with all summer off and I can't wait to start to relax on the 23rd. I took pride at being a stay a home mom. I still don't like to clean my bathrooms though.
