THANK YOU

A most sincere thank you to all who left such heartwarming comments in regard to Winslow Homer... his blindness is an adjustment for all of us here at Dog Trot Farm....ever undaunted....we will persevere....Winslow....who's duty it once was to keep the "girls" in check...now...it is they who appear to be protecting him....there is no other option but for us to move forward....we opted to make a sad situation into a learning experience....So...now let us talk about "IRENE" this monster of a hurricane that is threatening so many of us....first priority for me was to head to the berry fields....
Realizing that the raspberries were in their prime....but not knowing what conditions the berry fields might be in....if or when Irene strikes....I headed out bright and early....I took my husband along as well....I mean....hey....he was working at home today....and four hands are better than two....I must tell you the raspberries were just beautiful...large and juicy....the setting... just lovely....and best of all it was just DH and myself picking...together we picked a little under nine pounds of berries in forty-five minutes....I love to berry pick and I must confess I did get a little carried away. $42.00 was my tab....ouch....but we came home and made jam .... put some in the freezer for a cold winter's day....and shared with friends.... Irene.... we here at Dog Trot Farm are ready for you....the generator is in place....extra batteries...gas and water have been purchased....Winslow is stocked up on chicken treats.... reading material is on hand....the girls and Don Juan will be snuggled nicely in their coop....
This lady was part of the welcoming committee this morning...a very grand lady indeed....Irene....I do believe that would be a most appropriate name....goodnight Irene...

beautiful raspberries!! I am so glad you got some before Irene makes her way up the coast. I hope she just gives up and goes out to sea before she makes it to Dog Trot farm.
You will be in my prayers nonetheless.
I loved all of your pictures.

I just discovered your blog and can't wait to see more. It's 1:00am and I think I could easily be up all night looking around. I LOVE your gorgeous house and Winslow Homer is positively precious. Of coarse being the proud momma of 2 poms and adopting a rescue yorkie soon, well let's just say I am dog crazy.

She's a gorgeous gal - The Great Dane would like a nice big pig out in the field, but I am standing my ground on this!

I'm on my way out now to stock up on water and all the rest. Hubby snarled at me to fill my gas tank on the car and promised to buy a battery operated radio. Unfortunately, we don't have the generator yet. We just signed a guy up to build us a shed where we can store the generator...so, I'll fill the tub with water and we'll pray for the whole thing to move off shore and/or peter out! I'm too used to preparing for these things living right on the coast. My boys are in Boston, so I need to call them and give them the Mom talk about safety and all that! They probably don't even know about it yet! I don't think they're big on watching the evening news. Stay safe!

Berries look yummy! We will finish up our preparations for Irene today and pray that she turns away as she comes up the coast!

Those raspberries look so good! Love them! In fact I just finished eating my toast with raspberry jam on it. Store bought jam I might add. Probably not as good as homemade. Hope you don't get hit to hard with Irene.

Those raspberries look wonderful.....you'll enjoy summer long after it is gone. Sounds like you are well prepared for this storm. We've gone through most of the same list to get ready for Irene, but no generator down here. I'm praying that it's not as bad as predicted........stay safe.

ARGH! I think I forgot to post my comment :(
As I was saying...those berries look so yummy and 9# in 45 minutes must be some kind of record.
I do hope Irene fizzles or heads east over the ocean.
Pug hugs :)

Julie, you are a real survivor to think about picking those gorgeous raspberries before the storm hits. I hope that Irene passes you by though without damaging anything.

Stay dry and have a safe weekend.
Hugs and prayers, JB
