IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR...

Halloween....over the years Halloween has evolved into my favorite holiday. Halloween encompasses many of my favorite things ....owls..crows..pumpkins..gourds..gnarled old trees..corn stalks..bittersweet...and old tombstones...below is a casting taken from an original headstone.... I discovered and purchased this at a local craft fair...she is the guardian angel to Dog Trot Farm... This summer I purchased four small castings also taken from an old headstone. My husband will inform you when we visit a historic home .... I am drawn to the kitchen...the family library...books tell a lot about a person....and most importantly the family cemetery...I find the designs and symbols found primarily on the old stones so very fascinating...

If you are a fan of Halloween as I am...hurry over to your local Dollar Store....I discovered these black silhouette cut outs...they are very similar to those which Martha Stewart Living offers...just a whole lot cheaper.... for your selection there are mice..bats..crows..spiders..cats...now I say for a dollar a piece how can you go wrong...

Also discovered.... pumpkins...of various colors...white...brown...orange...tan...

and teal...my personal favorite...Now I have no intention of rushing the season....I am intending to enjoy each and every day... a minute at a time... for there are apples to pick and pies to make...pumpkins to gather and scarecrows to design....and leaves....oh... the leaves to rake...

like I said a minute at a time....

Delicious Autumn! my very soul is wedded to it, and If I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive Autumns. ~George Elliott~

I love it too, for many of the same reasons you mentioned! It also reminds me of being a kid even more than Christmas, actually. I was always intrigued with ghost stories and magic and such. It's just fun!! I'm going wild with Halloween rugs right now!

You know, I never was much of a fan of Halloween, until I started blogging. Then it sort of became my favorite colors and my favorite designs and then I found crows and pumpkins and all of the sewing and now I think this year I was ready for fall before I even took down my 4th of July things. There is just something homey in all of it.
Yes, dreaming of fall. It is to hot here usually for fires and such but I remember my Dad lighting our first fire and we might even have to turn on the air conditioner. How nice it would be to smell the lovely fall smells of Maine.
Have fun, I really enjoyed your pictures today.

Thanks for the heads up on the Dollar Store. They do look like Martha's. I like everthing you mentioned too. Time to drag out the orange Fall/Halloween tub. Debi

I love cemeteries, esp. the old ones. I am drawn to the history, the names, the remembrances etched in stone. I really enjoy all the takes on Autumn, pumpkins, crows, real ones are in my yard daily, and other things, apples, pies, craft shows, corn stalks, most esp. though the color of the changing trees.

Hi Julie, I absolutely love those beautiful pumpkins.
I never used to decorate for Halloween but just started decorating in the last two years. I buy a lot of my decorations at the thrift stores.

I'll be visiting the Dollar Store to see if I can find new stuff. JB

I am slowly getting in the mood for fall, and your post has definitely contributed to that feeling. I am still worshipping the dregs of summer, but I see pumpkins in my near future.

And I think I better get to the Dollar Store...quickly.

I started decorating Sept. 1. I feel absolutely renewed in the fall, tired of the heat and ready for a change!

cold and rain the trees are changing quickly. Fall is surely coming ready or not. I do love the feel of nesting in. We do not get many for trick or treat so I don't do as much as when my daughter was young.

If I could take a temper tantrum to keep summer for another month I would! While I enjoy the Autumn, I detest what follows it!

I do enjoy Halloween, especially witches! A friend of mine puts plastic pumpkins in all her windows! It looks so cute!

Ciao!

AFter a summer of consistent 105 temps, I'm READY for fall! I love those pumpkins - and I think the teal one is my favorite, too. They look great all grouped together!
