"WILLA"

Yesterday was a sad day here at Dog Trot Farm....Willa... a two year old Barred Rock... one of my original ten hens... passed away.... When a hen dies....one of the most difficult questions is why?....How can a healthy hen go to death's door in such a brief period of time. A case of here one minute and gone the next. Willa exhibited no external symptoms until her last few moments...She was a well loved hen...side kick to Gladys... bearer of beautiful eggs....and quite a looker....Willa was buried in the flower garden along side her sister's... Pip and Georgia...she will be missed.

So sorry to read about your Willa's passing. To have it be so unexpected makes it more difficult I'm sure. A sad day for you a Dog Trot Farm.

I agree, that is the hardest thing to grasp with chickens. Seemingly healthy one day and dead the next????? I KNOW that Willa had an awesome 2 years though! Take care.

I wish I knew why that happens. I lost two that way this summer, about the same age as yours. They just died. I never could see anything wrong other than they seemed to get rather listless.
I am so sorry for your loss.

Oh Julie, I am so sorry. It is so sad and puzzling. It hasppens here for no reason too. She was a beauty and I know she loves her final resting spot :(
I've missed you!
Hugs, Amy

That is so sad, especially when it's un-explained.

I hate to lose a hen, and as you know, we've lost four recently. Today someone called to say that there was a very friendly hen hanging out on his deck (and he didn't keep hens) Would we 'mind taking it to our place?' MIND? We were thrilled to give the girl a new home with our remaining three.

I am so, so sorry, Julie. It's so awful having them fine one moment and failing fast the second - and feeling so powerless to do anything about it. I know how mich you'll miss your girl. I still miss Boppity, my barred rock, every single day.

I am so sorry about Willa what a beauty she was. Chickens have personalities and she was a good little pet. Cheri

Sweet Willa. I'm sure she's so thankful for the wonderful life she had at your farm. I have been chatised for "pampering" my hens from a fellow farmer, but I know you understand why that must be done. Peace to you, Julie. ~Vonnie

So sorry about Willa. I love your chicken stories, but this one is sad. I guess chickens just don't have a long life span.
