OCTOBER'S GOLD

Yesterday at this time the air was heavy with moisture... a palpable sense of urgency was blowing in the wind...an impending snowstorm would soon be on our doorstep...lawn mowers and snow blowers could be heard in unison. Winter decides to arrive a bit early this year...October's gold will soon be nothing more than a faint memory...leaves will be covered in white...
Regardless of the weather preparations for Halloween are being finalized...a wreath finds it's place on the back door...A welcome mat is ready to greet witches..ghosts and goblins..a candle burning to light the way...bags of treats are filled...In the darkness of the night snow came...not a lot, but enough to cause disruptions...young trees snapped under the weight of heavy wet snow...homes found themselves without electricity...cancellations are many...I decide it is a good day to remain indoors... a perfect opportunity to begin a new book... resume work on a stitchery project.. bake a loaf of bread...regardless it will be a good day snow and all...

Julie,
I want to come trick or treating at your house! Minus the snow LOL! Those treat bags are adorable and your decorations are "to die for" not to sound too sinister.... he he he.....!
Have fun and stay warm!!

p.s. I will probably make a few more of those birds after my sale if I have any fingers left! LOL!!

No snow here, but some rain...the perfect weather for snuggling with quilts and drinking hot chocolate!

Love your attitude! Each day is what we make of it, and what could be better than nesting in our home? Happy Halloween, Dawn

I love the gold of October, we still have some in the low isolated spots, most of the upper regions are now brown. You have some lovely photos, hope you have a great Sunday.

That does sound like a wonderful idea. Except I had to go to work this morning. Slush ride. ;) Hope you had a wonderful day inside.

It is hard to believe that we got snow. But wonderful pictures as always.

It was an indoor day here too. Mainly rain with some snow mix later but nothing sticking to the ground......yet.

Just lovely, I love the one with the chairs in the snow.

I hope you had a lovely day. I am off to bake pumpkins pies. It seemed like a good day for that even though we are still in shorts. :)
Stay warm,
Kim

Your home looks wonderfully festive, perhaps to spite the untimely snow. Those trick-or-treat goodie bags are adorable. Lucky kids who ring your doorbell!

We got a bit more snow that you and I have to admit that I was a little grumpy about the whole thing! We did lose power for a few hours during the night, otherwise the snow just made for a messy day.

I can say it now....as we still have power.... this day was a gift allowing us to slow down a bit and indulge in a good book or a bit of rug hooking. We had 6" of snow here, but it is melting fast. Love your pictures and the Halloween goodies look wonderful!
Enjoy.....Cindy in ME

I love all your decorations, but especially love your candy bags. Wasn't the snow something. 80% of my town is without power tonight. My school was cancelled for tomorrow and we already had this Tuesday off for voting so it looks like I have a three day work week ahead of me. Woo HOO!!!

Hi Julie, everything looks so festive! I especially love how your filled the candy bags! Hope you get lots of children!

We were without power for 31 hrs., which was enough for me! Thankfully our home remained warm - only because I had been in the process of cleaning the oven . . . LOL . . .

No school for us today! Seems so strange to have a snow day in October!

Happy Halloween!

Your little treat bags are darling! You must have lots of little visitors. We only get the grandchildren here. But later on we will drive into town and see all of the decorated houses and watch the little kids run here and there, to-and-fro.

All we got down yonder here was some icy rain...
A perfect day for cozy indoor pursuits ~ I love a good Saturday tucked up inside with lots of tea and a good book! :)))
Thanks for you thoughts about Kippy. :)))

I love your Halloween decorations especially that Welcome mat:) I read that New England was getting an early snowfall, it could be a long winter. So far so good here though.

Bags of treats! Lucky little trick or treaters!!! I want to come for Halloween to Dog Trot. But I'd rather sit in one those adirondacks on an early Fall afternoon :) Great pictures Julie!

What a perfect Halloween paradise! But for that pesky snow it would have been one for the books! That first photo needs to be on the wall!!
My verification word is prokpide.
Make of it what you will!!

Your pictures are so bright and cheery, even if it is cold and snowy in your neck of the woods. It's still quite unseasonably warm here in Arizona. Missing the Fall in the Ozarks. Love your blog.
