THIS DAY~

My head remained a bit to long on the pillow this morning...not only did this throw my day off...Emma Lou let it be known she would like her breakfast sooner rather than later...Winslow Homer was patiently waiting to go out to do his business and the chickens, simply fed up with Don Juan and his repetitive announcement of daylight. Finally out the door Winslow and I enjoyed our morning walk through the woods. Leaves were softly falling with the color of fall blanketing the trail below. The woods were silent with the exception of squirrels scouring about.
Once back home my kitchen was soon filled with the aroma of cranberry banana bread. The recipe I use is from Janet, proprietor of the blog Old Crow Primitives. This recipe has become a favorite, the bread is moist and the cranberries offer the perfect tartness. YUMMY. By now I am sure you have come to the conclusion that Fall is my favorite season. Black, orange and teal are my favorite colors. I am very fond of pumpkins in any shape and form, so when I came upon this lovely pumpkin girl I knew she needed to come live with us here at Dog Trot Farm. The Jack-O-Lantern below found his way home with me many years ago. When I unpack my holiday decorations, no matter the season, I feel as though I am reconnecting with old friends, do you ever feel this was too? Now, I have seen Christmas commercials on television, I have even heard Christmas music playing in the background of certain stores. I admit instead of putting me in the buying mode, it has the opposite effect. Please, let me digest my Thanksgiving meal before the buying frenzy begins. With that being said, I vow to enjoy Autumn, in it's entirety. There will be popcorn balls and candy apples, Halloween, pumpkin pie and candy corn...The crunching of leaves under my feet. These are the days that I have been waiting for...tonight I shall set the alarm clock...I don't want to waste one precious moment of this glorious season by over sleeping. Did I mention there are snow showers in the forecast?

Oh yes, fall is the very best time of the year. It is a lot of fun to be a shopkeeper, but it always seems like you are one season ahead. Next week will be time to redo the shop for the holidays and our open house. Whew - it's a LOT of work!!! Enjoy some of the autumn for me, Dawn

Sounds like my kind of day and I keep thinking I better take that walk through the woods behind our house before it gets really cold. I Love the pictures of your walk and I even took a picture of a tree next to the parking lot at a shop. It was all red leaves and so pretty and the next time I go that way the tree will be bare. I love fall but I also love spring when it seems like everything is coming back to life after a cold winter. Enjoy your day tomorrow with your fur babies and maybe bake some more of that yummy looking bread. I always liked to slice my cranberry bread when I made it and then toast it and put butter on it...sooo yummy :)

I love the last photo. I bet it is even more breath taking in person. I agree with you on the Christmas songs. Its not even Halloween yet!! Oh, I heard the same forecast. We could be getting snow Thursday night. YIKES!

I heard about those snow showers! What beautiful pictures. I agree with you about the rushing of the holidays. I love Christmas, but don't love the shopping and money spending overload. I don't want to rush the cozy feel of fall. Have a splendid day!

I'm with you. Fall is such a special time of year, I hate that merchants are try to rush us through it. My Thanksgiving table will be dressed for fall and I will keep the pumpkins on my porch through the end of November.

Mmmm...that bread looks so delicious. I enjoyed seeing your fall themed pictures and especially like Pumpkin Girl. I feel exactly as you do when I pull out my holiday decorations. Yes, old friends.

Love the photo's. Isn't it grand to sleep in once in awhile? My kitties very rarely let me and the ducks always are ready to eat. Hope you are well.

Autumn is glorious! Your's sure looks lovely. I cringe at the thought of Christmas decorations coming up soon and music playing. It's just too early-time for me to light up my plastic pilgrims and put them on the porch. : -)

I hope your day is just beautiful today. I can't believe you already have snow in the forecast. I love your post about your bantams. They are lovely. I went to the feed store and they had some and I was tempted then I thought of them being in my garage bathroom all through the winter and I just looked but didn't bring any home. I was tempted as they had a lot of Cuckoo Marans and I think those are my favorite kind now. Can you ever have favorites?
I like your pumpkins too.
I haven't heard Christmas music yet, I am afraid it might make me a little nuts. It wouldn't make me want to shop either.
Have a lovely fall filled day.

What a perfect Fall day. Sigh. I'm going to have to look at the black orange and teal together for possible leash/collar colors. Hmmm. :)

I so miss fall out here in AZ. I know you can go drive up to the high country and see fall colors but it's just not the same. Enjoy every one of those wonderFALL days!!

Well, I for one, am very glad your rooster is NOT mean. I would love a rooster, but he must be gentle to the hens and to me.

Winter is arriving here...rain and snow now for two days and two nights! ENJOY FALL...it never seems to last long enough!

Yes, yes, Fall is the BEST time of year! I love the way you write about the things you like best, and now I want them all too.
I haven't taken out more than a wreath this year. I won't be home for Hallowe'en and we don't, in any case, get a single child up our driveway. I guess I'm saving my decorating mojo for Christmas!

Oh goodness...I agree that you shouldn't waste time over-sleeping when you can be outside at this time of year! Goodness knows you'll be cooped up soon enough especially if you have snow-showers in the forecast...yuck. It's just too soon for that in my books. I do remember when I was a kid in Manitoba Canada wearing my Halloween costume over my snow suit many times! Enjoy your pumpkins and your beautiful fall colors.
Maura :)
