GOODBYE DEAR GIRL

Friends...thank you for your kind comments and concerns in regard to my parents well being. After a tense week both are finally on the mend. Anxious to return to their own home and Island community...Sunday...they will sail down the bay...home at last...
After the death of Iris my Buff, her sister Charlotte became quite despondent. Charlotte's appearance seemed to change overnight. Her crop and wattle went from bright red to white...she suddenly began to move and take on the appearance of an old hen...Sadly this afternoon Charlotte passed away...she was laid to rest in the perennial garden next to Iris...sometimes...a broken heart is just to difficult to overcome....even for chickens...goodbye my sweet girl...

That it so sad. I guess broken hearts are not just reserved for humans. Glad your parents are on the mend.

So sorry about your chicken troubles. They sure become a part of lives like any other pet. It's something I never really expected when we got our chickens.

I am glad your parents are doing so much better. Gosh, I can't believe you lost another hen. A broken heart is so sad. Loosing friends is just so hard.

It's so hard to lose such good and faithful layers as Iris and Charlotte. Anyone who uses the words 'bird brained' knows little about hens. My girls know me, chat to me, call me, and reward my responses with the loveliest blue and brown eggs!

That is so sad that Charlotte couldn't go on without Iris. You just never think of animals being so bonded but they are.

Oh my gosh, Julie, I wouldn't not have thought two chickens could be so attached. What a heartbreaking story.

On the positive side, I'm very glad your parents are getting their life back, as I'm sure they are too.

We don't usually think of chickens (or animals) that way, but we have to take time to remember that they are living, breathing beings. I'm very sorry for your loss, hopefully the girls are together again.

I'm also happy to hear that your parents are on the mend and heading home. I'm sure they'll feel even better once they are in familiar surroundings.
