Morning.... the day dawned bright with sunshine....there was warmth to the air....the sweet sound of bird song was all encompassing...spirits were high....my small patch of earth was tilled....If I had been smart and purchased peas they would have been planted today....I do believe spring has finally sprung....but still....deep in the woods.... the evidence of winter remains.... For me it was a day to begin spring "cleanup" ....those last leaves that never got raked in October.... now visible....stones and grass mounds relocated by the snow plow need to be put back to their proper location....there is much to do....but Rome was not build in a day....I took the time to sit and peruse a new book....by the look on her lovely face Miss Charlotte does not seem to be impressed....could it be she has that intuitive motherly instinct....might newcomers becoming to reside at Dog Trot Farm?....it is spring after all.... Chick Days is a wonderful new book....great for beginners and seasoned chicken keepers alike. This book is written by Jenna Woginrich of Cold Antler Farm and photos by Mars Vilaubi. It follows day by day....week by week....the growth of three chickens as they develop from hatchlings to laying hens....which have come to reside with Vilaubi and his family....It is a great book for anyone wanting to get started with chickens....or to add to one's "chicken keeping library." Sisters.... Fern and Phoebe.... hold a strong attachment to one another....I do worry If something were to happen to one the other might possibly die of a broken heart....one can not bear to be without the other....

Julie, I love your Sunday post. How can you remember all your chickens 'name? They are so cute and they look so intelligent. It has been a super nice day here too. I want more of the same. Have a great week. JB
I always knew Gladys and I had a special connection.....she's a shoe lover too.
I think you're right, Spring has sprung! Thanks for the tip on the "Chick Days" book! I will definitely check it out!
Awww....LOVE all the chick photos!!!
sweet, I can't believe you still have some lingering snow. That book looks like a good one, I love books, I could NEVER have a Kindle. Have a good day, Linda
Oh! Goodie!! More new chicks! Mine are growing so fast now, I can't believe it. I think they may be outgrowing the brooder sooner then we'd hoped. And YES, I do know about chicken dust if you mean the layer that covers the two rooms nearest them every day. I dust, they dust bathe, it's a mess. So, they've been banished to the sunroom for the warm days.
Your girls are gorgeous! I can't believe my little ones will ever by that big! I love Jenna's books and blog as well. She's fun.
Take care and please...pictures when the new girls arive, I can't wait to see who joins you! ~Vonnie, NH

Aren't you so excited to be feeling some spring in the air? We had record breaking temps yesterday - 83!!! We put the top down on the bug car and went for a long ride. Today we are back to the 50's and rain. Oh well, it was great to have one day of warmth! Have a great week, Dawn
I do believe that spring might be here to stay - at your place and at mine!
Can't wait to see the new additions to your household.
What a lovely flock of beauties you have. I have already read several books on chicken keeping but will have to get this one next. I never get tired of reading chicken books.
I just loved your day and I am so glad you have some soil showing through. It looks like a lovely chicken book, can you ever have to many chicken books?" Are you going to be getting some new chicks?
I loved your little hint, I will be watching. :)Take lots of pictures!
