QUALITY TV?.....

What I have discovered...while lazing in the backyard.... watching clouds float by....

and hens going about their daily business...

this is far more entertaining...

than anything I could find on television...

due to the hot and humid weather spending time indoors became a necessity...I quickly discovered finding quality television was almost non existent...what I did discover... reality TV shows... with just about any theme you can imagine...there are hoarders...how one gets to a point in their life where living among garbage and rodents being acceptable is beyond me...bridezillas...I truly felt embarrassed for these women....tiny tot beauty queens...stories of grotesquely obese people who are living their life confined to a bed...celebrities and their rehab dramas...you have pickers and pawn shop owners...Alaskan fisherman and ice road truckers...the later of which I found somewhat entertaining..and then there is sixteen and pregnant...all of which made me feel like the photo pictured below... What I did discover is 40 year old reruns of All In The Family...Little House on the Prairie...I Love Lucy and the Walton's..was and still is far superior than anything I can find on today's television...I ask you...are these reality shows quality entertainment?...not in my opinion...good night John Boy...

Yeah, the whole reality TV thing has me baffled also. We still watch and enjoy 40 year old episodes of Lucy. Do you think The Bachelor will have the same life span? (God, I hope not) Lol

I haven't had a working TV in over two years and before that I never watched it. As you can attest to, I am not missing much, am I?

I enjoy your blog very much, and I must say I totally agree with you about TV shows. I love all those old shows, the new TV shows are boring with a capital B!! Love your chickens, so cute. Dianne

I love the picture of all of your chairs waiting for someone to come sit on them and watch the clouds.
I have to tell you I would just about would sit and watch chickens any day of the week than watch what you described. I have never heard of most of them thank goodness.
It just makes you cringe inside.
I hope your weather breaks soon.
I don't know but that is what I love about chickens, there is always something funny to watch.
Have a lovely week, Julie.

The only thing I have really truly watched on t.v. for a very long time are the Waltons & Little House re-runs. If it were totally up to me, there would be no satellite t.v... just dvd's of above mentioned programs, local antenna t.v., and Netflix (lots of great documentaries & nature programs on there!). And I am also in agreement on watching the chickens... it's the best! Love your pics :) -Tammy

Hey there - thanks for your visit! I totally agree with you - I detest most of the reality shows, and there's so much filth on TV now that we don't watch much. Give me Little House and all the oldies - Carol Burnett is one of my favorites - any old time!
Heck I'd rather watch your chickens that some of the junk on TV! haha!

Your flowers are gorgeous - and I love Winslow's haircut - that is so cute!

The plethora of terrible 'reality' shows and the in-your-face sitcoms say something very unpleasant about our western culture. The best protest is to do as you've done, and turn elsewhere.

You are so right. I actually spent the better part of yesterday watching hummingbirds and bluebirds go to the feeders. Much better than Hoarders anytime! Why is society so fascinated by such bleak stuff?

You could develop a reality show about raising chickens...LOL...now that I'd watch!

SO TRUE! If you have Netflix, try the British show Doc Martin. It is great!

Your flower gardens are GORGEOUS!! Love all the colors and textures in that last photo! I have decided based on your pics I need to add some new flowers.

I love the double, shaggy daisies and echinacea, and the coral colored echinacea. I am thinking it would lok great at Henbogle!

Enjoy the cooler weather, wasn't yesterday lovely? And thanks for the compliments! You gardens are as lovely.

You are SO right! TV has just gotten cluttered with well "crap"! I too watch the old shows and stick to PBS. Am finding I have the TV off more than on these days because of it and wonder why I felt I needed satelite to get more channels of well "crap"! :)

I almost never watch regular TV these days except for specials on PBS and movies. There's nothing that beats the Waltons or Little House as far as I'm concerned. Love your photos!! Goodnight, Julie. Goodnight, Grandpa.

I did the same thing when I thought taking a nap in front of TV trumped living with the heat. I couldn't believe there really was a program 16 and pregnant. What have we become?

O.k I confess.. I have to admit the new Jersey housewives have me hooked that being said I love to read and my favorite show is Larkrise to candleford and Doc Martin but I think it's because it's like watching a train wreck.I can't believe they act like that.

For the most part, I'd rather watch paint dry than just about any reality program on television!

Clouds and chickens are much more interesting!

I absolutely agree with you about these reality shows, they are complete dross and how anyone could waste their time watching them is beyond me. It's hard to find a decent programmme on UK TV in the summer too but at least there is the occasional one worth watching. I'd rather read or knit or cross-stitch or any one of a dozen other things though.

Good Afternoon Julie! I am ashamed to admit it so I am just going to tell you. I can not stop watching "Flipping Out" on Bravo. I.Am.Hooked. Hook,Line, and whatever! Your colorful assortment of adirondacks make me smile. I wanna be sitting in one!

Haha, I love 16 and Pregnant / Teen Mom. You gotta watch those from the beginning so you get all the drama :) Can't wait to see you next week!

You are so right about the reality shows. My new favorite TV show is Tom Selleck's new one - "Blue Bloods" on Friday nights (sometimes Weds too). We are also going through our beloved Hamish MacBeth DVD's - dolng them out one episode a day or so. Love the Scottish highlands scenery and the story lines are wonderful!

The Andy Griffith Show is one of my all time favorite oldies but goodies tv show. "Goober says hey."

I think I would rather watch hens and the clouds too.
