SUMMERTIME...

Good morning sunshine....bright and early...at first light...I am awakened by a low croaking sound which over time develops into a full blown cock-a-doodle-doo. It is now official...I cannot deny it any longer- there is a rooster residing here at Dog Trot Farm. The former Josephine is now officially... Don Juan...his name is a perfect fit...and what a handsome boy he is...I am not sure if this is his forever home...but for now...he is behaving himself quite nicely. I... having no prior experience with roosters....will give him the benefit of the doubt...however my "girls" have voiced their opinion and want it to be known they are not wearing "saddles" if you get my drift...Don Juan you have been properly warned...I am happy to report strawberry season has arrived here in Maine...and yesterday... yes... it just so happened to be the hottest...most humid... day of the summer.... 96 degrees...friends and I ventured to the strawberry fields...this particular field is located along the rocky coast...hence... a wonderful cool southerly breeze was blowing and the smell of salt to the air...picking conditions were perfect...

today...being the second hottest day of the summer... 93 degrees...I dusted off my canning kettle and made jam...

tomorrow...strawberry muffins...just look at these paper liners... then it was off to the backyard for a tall ice cold glass of lemonade...

notice the little honeybee on my glass...

I put my feet up...and was enjoying the rest of the afternoon... until I noticed my girls rearranging the vegetable garden...peas happen to be their personal favorite... tonight... replanting and watering by the light of the moon....stay cool my friends...'tis summertime after all...

Beautiful - rooster, berries, jam, liners (where did you get those?!), honeybee glass and flower-pedi! I have way too much experience concerning roos. I love my boys though, and the current routine includes me packing the two boys to their daytime mancave every morning at 6 a.m. And yep, back to the safety of the main coop at dusk, when they're too sleepy to do any damage :) (And I wonder why I don't have a 'real life'.. lol.) Best wishes with Don Juan - he's a doll. -Tammy

I love those toes. Very summery. So is your glass of lemon aid and Your rooster looks like a nice rooster. I hate to tell you this but they are so sweet in the beginning. :)
Your cupcake papers looks great and so does the jam. I noticed it is your hot day of summer and you made jam. Me too. Our hottest day I had to make jam, I wonder what is up with that. :)
It all looks good.
Enjoy you days!

It has been hot but the mountains have been a bit cooler. My porch has ceiling fans so that is where we plant ourselves until the heat passes. I said I would not complain of the heat and I am not looking forward to winter this year.

I hope Don Juan proves to be a gentleman!

Thos canning jars are adorable!! Where oh where did you find them? I LOVE them. The strawberry pickinghas been amazing this year, Dan and I picked almost 100 lbs. I've made 2 batches of jam, and the rest are in the freezer.

Enjoy the weather!

Don Juan is a handsome guy! Don't know much about roosters, are they trouble makers?

Aren't the strawberries fantastic this year? I'll bet your preserves are fantastic.

Cute polish on the piggy's too! Have a great one!

Ahhh, summer is the best.

I haven't seen fresh strawberries lately but blueberries are in season. Today I picked raspberries at my next door neighbors for muffins.

Let me just say, I really, REALLY wanted those glasses and have kicked myself a hundred times for not buying them!!!! Now I can't find them anywhere except online for a high price.

Lot's of rain this evening!

Don Juan is a very splendid looking chap I must say. Those strawberries look beautiful but it doesn't sound the ideal weather for jam making - I've experienced that sort of July weather some years ago in New Hampshire and swore I would never visit at that time of year again:)

Well, if he doesn't get too carried away and wear out the girl's backs and turn mean and hurt you....you will have your very own chicken brodders of the warm feathery kind.
