AUTUMN~

Autumn~ "I cannot endure to waste anything as precious as Autumn sunshine by staying in the house. So I spend almost all daylight hours in the open air." ~Nathanial Hawthorne~
There is a stillness to the air as the early morning sun shines through the oak trees...soon the chickens will be set free from the confines of their coop....off in the distance the sound of the big yellow school bus rumbles down the back dirt road...the only bird song heard is that of the Blue Jay...
There is much to do to prepare for winter...With warm days and cool nights Autumn is a welcomed guest...Autumn reawakens my energy...fields have been mowed and hay bales stacked...the north side of the homestead received a fresh coat of paint...screens have been removed and windows washed...five cords of wood now stacked...these precious Autumn days pass so swiftly...I attempt to savor each and every one...there has been a trip to the pumpkin patch, a Cinderella pumpkin is a Fall must at this house...the first apple pie of the season has just been devoured...oh...how welcomed the  scent of fresh cinnamon and nutmeg is...pie baking and a tall glass of apple cider go hand in hand...gardens are being put to bed for the winter...while the planting of Spring bulbs has begun...so much to do seemingly so little time...however, I always make time to read...I now own my own copy of "Pumpkin Moonshine" the first published book of Tasha Tudor...written for her five year old niece "Sylvie Ann" who was coming for a visit from England...it is the story of a little girl and her discovery of  the biggest fattest  pumpkin and how she attempts to get it home...
You're never to young to be read to, just ask four month old Travis Lloyd...Let me just say...this new blogging system has taken me some time to figure out. Why oh why can't "they" leave well enough alone. I am sure it is quite obvious that I am technically challenged... that being said updates coming on Winslow Homer's health, Sadie Mae's escape to the great unknown, and chickens on the roof! There is never a dull moment around here...Goodnight to all....

Please pinch those sweet cheeks for me. Nothing like a baby's smile to melt the heart.

Oh man those cliffhangers! Sadie Mae escaped? Winslow? And chickens on the roof? At least you left us with a picture of Mr. Sweet Stuff!

I wish I could say that I'm ready for fall and that the garden has been put to bed and the wood is corded etc.

I'm still in weeding mode. Windows are still dirty and the time of daylight is getting shorter so I don't get much time to work outside after barn chores.

Love the cute smiling face. Just precious. The perfect ending for your post.

Hello Julie, love your pictures of the homestead, looks wonderful. Oh a cinderella pumpkin, my favorite, I still have not found one. That little Travis is so sweet, adorable. I would like to read that book also. Your posts are a joy, look forward to them, leaves me feelin warm and fuzzy. Yes, so much to do at this time of year, but love it and want to sit in the sunshine and soak it up while I can. Warm Blessings Francine.

Oh how I love this time of year! I will miss it when the snow starts to fly though. Travis is just a dolly, I know you're having a great time with him!

What a cute little grin. Sadie Mae escaped?? It sounds so nice to be able to get ready for winter. It sounds so nice. We really won't even have fall until about December 21st.
When my kids were young, they didn't even really wear shoes until November. Isn't that crazy. One cord of wood will last us all winter. I still think I would love to be getting ready for winter.
Your pictures are beautiful. Yep, Julie it cooled off just today, 89 degrees. :)
Have a great rest of the week!

Hi Julie,

I'm still figuring it out, too....grrrr...I liked the old one much better.

Sounds like the blessings of autumn are upon you as well. Just feel so renewed and blessed this time of year!

Travis is just adorable!! Look at those cheeks, who wouldn't want to give 'em a big kiss. What a love.

Enjoy your autumn, it's fleeting, but wonderful. And thanks for stopping by my blog, it's so nice to hear from you. ~Vonnie

What a lovely post!
Every time I post a picture or publish a blog post I am amazed that I've accomplished it. There seem to be new challenges all the time!
