OCTOBER DAYS

Happy Birthday Mom...
I am blessed with the most wonderful mother. She and my dad gave my brother and me a wonderful childhood, one filled with many cherished memories. Today this most incredible lady turns 82." Age is just a number"...and my mother is a perfect example of this saying. Mom stays involved with many island activities, whether it be volunteering at the church gift shop, historical society, or heading up a weekly bridge game,
she stays busy. Not only does she find time for these activities, but has been employed for the last 32 years as a rural route mail carrier. I think she would agree with me when I say the key to a long and happy life is to remain a life long learner, surround yourself with people you love and care about and give back to your community. It also helps to have a husband who is willing to vacuum daily, fold the laundry and wash dishes. My parents make the perfect team...Happy Birthday mom, we love you...
Fall is here... the weather today cold and rainy. The foliage has not been as spectacular as in previous years and much of the foliage has fallen from the trees. October means popcorn balls, candy apples, pumpkin bread, apple cake and tonight the first wood stove fire of the season. The fragrance of cinnamon and spices once again simmer in the old black cast iron pot.
Sunday DH and I took a drive to New Hampshire, while in North Conway we noticed there was snow on the summit of Mt. Washington. Mt. Washington allegedly is known as having the world's worst weather. We have driven up the auto road many times which is an experience in itself. On my "Bucket List" is to travel to the summit via snow cat during the winter months. It is a day trip and one that would offer wonderful photo opportunities...
Honestly there is not a pumpkin that I have not fallen for...I just love these warts...
I do believe there is a bit of a witch in me...

I love your pictures and I love traveling with you as you see such interesting things.
Happy birthday to your Mom she sounds like a great lady and I know her daughter is too.
You know I have thought the same thing lately too, as much as I love fall and pumpkins and witch boots. :)
Something just makes it seem like the best time of the year.
Have a lovely weekend,

Happy Birthday to your mom. Your post made me happy for you and melancholy. When you have challenges in the Mom department, it's hard not to be jealous of folks who have great Moms. She sounds like a lovely lady! I admire her "life-long" learning model! I can tell how much you love her!!

Happy 82nd to your mom! Give her a big hug! She sounds like an amazing woman! It's been 4 weeks since my mom went with the angels and I miss her beyond belief.

Love your warty pumpkin, we picked one of those this past weekend too! My husband was reading my mind when he said "what would you think . . . " so now I have a warty pumpkin in my family room! I love it! I think it will look great carved for Halloween!

I think I'm part witch too! LOL!!! I LOVE to decorate with them @ Halloween. My husband thinks I practice WICA because of the herbs I grow by the back door! LOL!!!

We're keeping our fingers crossed for a warm and sunny weekend as we travel to Maine!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Birthday to your Mother. I think that's marvelous. My Mom kept going as long as she could.

This time of year brings such lovely things. I enjoy the smells and the colors but not the rainy cold.

Happy birthday to your mom! What a beautiful time of year to be born. September and October are my very favorites, although they both seemed to fly by this year. Aren't there just some great pumpkins out there? Hope you have a wonderful weekend, Dawn

I really enjoyed the story about your Mom and I also wish an outstanding lady a Happy Birthday. It was an inspiration to me to think of some things to do to keep me busy at the age of 70..If your Mom can do all that at 81 then I guess I need to get more of a life at 70. Thank you for sharing that story :)

Hope your Mom had a wonderful birthday, she sounds like my kind of lady:)
It's a pity the Fall colours aren't as good as usual, I drove the Kancamagus Highway a couple of years ago and it was absolutely fabulous.

What a blessing to have such a wonderful Mom. She sounds very charming. Love your pictures. Our leaves are not popping this year either. Guess the heat was just too much and very little rain. I feet witchy too. I don't know which broom to ride this year.

I hope you know just how fortunate you are to have parents like that. Let's just say I'm a little bit envious and leave it at that.

The foliage definitely isn't as good as it usually is, that's for sure. Especially down here along the coast where we've barely even had a frost. Strange weather for October.

Loving all those funky pumpkins too!

Happy Belated Birthday to your Mom Julie! Your parents sound like wonderful people and what a great example they've set for you. I hope you all had a wonderful time celebrating that special day. That's a shame that your fall colors aren't as pretty this year...I've been looking forward to seeing all the reds up there through your blog and a few others that I follow in the north east. There's been strange weather around the world this year...let's hope things are back to normal next year. Love your pumpkins!
