AUTUMN DARKNESS~

Autumn darkness...
As evening unfolds and the day is at its end the shadows of the stark countryside reveal itself... temperatures have remained cool...ideal conditions for this day... a day devoted to yard work...leaves "crunch" as squirrels scampered about...vocal hens begged to be let out of their confines...an indoor kitty finds her way in uncharted outdoor territory...it is a day for tying up loose ends...all to soon  evening nears...  we are ready for  the warmth of our home...a wood fire awaits, a candle shines brightly in the window... we pause, look up to the noise coming from  the sky...a "V" formation of Canadian geese fly overhead...goodbye they say...offering us a fond Autumn farewell...

Julie, it was cloudy & breezy all day, by afternoon I had the chills, jacket weather for sure today, and the sun set came so early. Late autumn hugs us as the darkness closes in. Hope you have a great week!

Wonderful post! It has reached 60 here today but is still cool and cloudy. The sun will set earlier and we will cover up with quilts. Snow will be here soon enough, but for now the autumn still lingers.
Hugs, Noreen

You paint a cosy picture and it feels the same here .

The cloud are darker and the air is cool and with a northern breeze, it's getting chilly. The wood stove is lit and the fire is crackling here too and I'm settling down for a nice cosy evening with my book after a busy day working at cleaning three more flower beds of dead debris and barn work with yet another large bull calf born today. The only thing missing are the chickens.

I hope that the elections goes as you wish tomorrow.

You do have a wonderful way with words. I have been feeling uneasy and shaky with all the tragedy and politics going on at the same time. It has given me an overwhelming need to listen to the quite and stay close to home and hearth!

Please describe the smell of burning leaves in that post. I have a great visual with your decriptions. I'm in Florida visiting my mom. It was 85 today. Just not the same fall here. Kinda miss it.

We had a similar day here, Julie...right down to the geese! Wouldn't it be funny if they were the same ones? We are just bit south of you after all. Happy Autumn to you! ~Vonnie

Sigh...yes with the time change it will be dark early. I have no idea how I'll get any outside dog training done after work now. But it does feel kind of cozy in a way!

Oh, the frost is definitely on the pumpkin, and the chill in the air. I can't seem to keep my toes warm today. Maybe a nice cup of tea....

The geese and the cranes are arriving here in huge flocks. I always welcome them...at least they make winter worthwhile.
