~NOVEMBER~

November...  where the landscape is  stark...our once colorful scenery is now stripped down to it's bare bones..
 darkness comes early...
with the wood stove keeping the evening chill at bay...
November...where turkeys appear...
the fragrance of drying  apples and oranges  fill the old homestead...
cranberry relish for Thanksgiving is in the making...
November is the month when we begin feeding the birds... also the month  my battle with the squirrel population begins...
aging and blind, Winslow Homer remains a strong presence here at Dog Trot Farm...
Sadie Mae I fear remains forever lost...my belief is a house is not a home without a kitty...
So here's my question, is it to soon for me to look for a furry friend? Please let me know how what you think...Oh...last Thursday... snowflakes!!!

Getting yourself a kitty doesn't diminish Sadie's loss. I think its time you found a new friend. Make sure dear old Winslow Homer is happy with this new housemate though, he is still the King of Dog Trot Farm :)

Evening Julie, oh so toasty with wood stove heat........was wondering how Winslow Homer is, so glad he is still with you............well, I do not think it is to soon to take in another Kitty, so many need a loving kind home and I know Dog Trot is the perfect place for one. Do what your heart feels best dear Julie, Happy November, Hugs Francine.

Beautiful photos of November....and no it's not too early. A kitty needs your love and I agree with you it's just not home without one. Especially winter, cold days with a cat snuggled on your lap....ahhh....it's good for both of you.

we had snow this morning clinging to the trees. The first snow is so beautiful and it leaves in a day. I say get your kitty there are always so many kitties looking for a home.

If it feels right, just do it. There are so many furry friends that need their forever home! So happy to see a pic of Sir Winslow. Those seniors just melt my heart.
Hugs :)

lovely photos of home, hugs to Winslow, no it is not too early, as long as he approves the choice.

If you were closer I'd give you a cute tabby kitty of ours.

Is it too early to get a kitty? Only you and Mr. Dog Trot can make that decision. If you feel a need for a kitty then go with it.

Kitties are so cute and loveable but they grow fast, needs fixing and fed for many years but they are not demanding like dogs.

Hugs,
JB

Lovely images, Julie, as I sit here looking at a grey and dreary day.

As for getting a new kitty...it is time when you start wondering if it is time.

Get two or three. :) I have five. I love having slumbering kitties in my house. I think having a kitten around is a good thing. It is good for them to grow up with a baby around. My grand kids and the kitties get along wonderfully.
It will help your heart. Your place looks wonderful. I always enjoy your updates. Enjoy your stove.

I think the time is right when you find yourself wishing to adopt a new kitty. I think that bring a cat into your like is a tribute to Sadie Mae because it shows how much she added to your quality of life and how much pleasure her company brought you. Any cat who was once homeless would want you to make another cat feel as loved as she was.
I would try to look for a cat that is fine with being an indoors only cat. I had cats that used to be outdoor/indoor cats, but when I moved into my condo, they all quickly adjusted & seemed to actually enjoy the safety of the house. It was then that I realized how stressful it had been for me to worry about running loose. I know Sadie Mae insisted on continuing her outdoor life, but most cats adjust quickly to being inside if given a perch to view the World from.
You sound like you are ready to open your heart & home to a new cat.
Have fun selecting your new companion. I have always had good luck in adopting bonded pairs and they keep each other company. I avoid 2 females because they seem to get too jealous of each other, but 2 males are very mellow buddies & I had a brother/sister pair of kittens who were took care of each other their whole lives. I look forward to meeting you new kitty!

You need to go find yourself a new kitty - it's never to soon to give a furry friend a home. Everything looks so cozy at your house, it's just that time of year! Stay warm, it's snowing in Michigan today. Dawn
